| The Festival of Migration is almost here!
Let’s celebrate the vibrant cultural diversity of our city and our neighbours as well as promoting cultural rights and empowering artists and communities to come together. Join us at this intercultural celebration from June 16th – 18th 2023, which includes a wonderfully rich range of discussions, performances and exhibitions plus a world cafe where you get to have your say on how culture can be the glue that binds us together.
A signature festival of the year, Art27scotland are proud to lead this unique and thought provoking event.

Highlights of the festival include:
- Kraina: The Land on the Edge & DAVNO’s multimedia art project that explores traditional Slavic art, folklore, and myths through paper cutouts and digital animation.
- Quan Nguyen’s thought-provoking talk “Are we New Scots? Migrant Experiences and Racial, Ethnic and Cultural Barriers to an Inclusive Scotland,” which explores the challenges faced by migrants in Scotland.
- Family in Migration, a photography exhibition by Laleh Sherkat depicting the integration of family traditions into Scottish society.
- Fatima’s Promise, a theatrical production featuring young performers from Arab heritage who’ve made the perilous journey to safety.
- Shatha Altowai’s Inherited Incantations art installation, exploring the need to create magical protection for children. This is an international exchange between Yemen and Scotland.
- Elaine Cheng’s Sound of Southside – experimental composing through musical free improvisation and soundwalks that evoke a personal experience of the streets of Southside.
A highlight of the Festival is a special presentation by Alexandra Xanthaki, UN Special Rapporteur on Cultural Rights in Migration followed by an unforgettable musical fusion of many different cultural heritages sharing journeying stories of the neighbourhood – The Southside Symphony |

| Come to our children’s paper cutting workshop inspired by Polish folklore, led by Art27Scotland Artist in Residency, Marta Adamowicz. Or try your hand at Chinese Calligraphy in our workshop run by the Confucious Institute. Experience the innovative and unique experience of the Human Library, where visitors can have candid, one-on-one conversations with local volunteers to learn more about the people in their community, and unpack biases.
Sample delicious food and browse handmade crafts, join conversations on Brexit and Climate Justice – and don’t forget to join us in the cafe to take your turn at the open mic! There will also be what promises to be a fabulous finale performance by the band The Other, a collaborative music project comprised of musicians from Scotland, plus those with a lived experience of displacement and immigration. |
