Chinese Calligraphy Workshop
Part of the Festival of Migration collection
Come and learn to write your name using Chinese calligraphy!
Chinese calligraphyis one of the earliest and most important visual art form in China. As practising Chinese calligraphy is a calm, relaxing and meditative process, which benefits our well being and leads to longevity. By controlling the special soft brush with a sharp point, Chinese brush painting is not only a mental exercise, also a physical exercise that coordinates the mind and the body.
Chinese calligraphy used to be popular in China, Taiwan, Japan, and Korea. In Taiwan, students were requested to write Chinese calligraphy starting from primary school all the way to junior high school on a weekly basis at least to the year 1980. As young generations are “typing” more often than “writing”, when PC, tablets and mobile phones became the major communication channels, Chinese calligraphy became purely art.
This lovely workshop is delivered and supported by the Confucius Institute of Scotland. Places are limited: places may be booked, and some will be available for drop-in on the day.
